About Simply Garden Care
Simply Garden Care provides reliable and affordable garden care to our local clients in Sanderstead, Warlingham and nearby.
We are a friendly couple who take pride in our work – whether it is helping you keep on top of those weeds, taking on tougher tasks: digging, mowing, hedging, pruning, trimming, edging, clearing a jungle or wholly transforming your green space, etc.
We offer flexibility and are happy to help you garden or take it all on for you, as suits. We can work on a regular or one-off basis or let you "see how it goes" and call us in when you need us.
While we have decades of gardening experience, our passion for gardens and our desire to learn formally and informally remains.
We carry full Public Liability insurance – although we have never claimed or needed to!
Our Costs
We normally charge £30 per hour (per person). It’s that simple and we think this offers great value in our area of South London.
We work honestly and reliably and we believe our costs compare very well.
We are happy to care for your garden on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, one-off or some other basis - whatever makes sense.
We work locally and undertake all work ourselves; keeping our overheads down and value-for-money high.
We bring our own tools and we carry Public Liability insurance.
Caring for your garden shouldn’t cost the earth.
Your Garden
We believe your garden can always be a positive part of life.
It is a simple truth that to best enjoy your garden, you will need to invest in its care. But, caring for your garden should not cost the earth.
Whether your garden is a modest patch or almost a park, informal or cultivated, well-tended or in need of some love; we can offer flexible care, passion and support to match your requirements.
We will listen to your needs, adapt our care to those and if you want offer our ideas and imagination too.
Your needs
We treat every client and their garden as unique. We like to meet and discuss your needs and aims in your garden.
If you are time-poor, we will ensure your garden looks good and is ready for you to relax and enjoy.
We can help transform your garden into a better space and / or keep it just so.
If you are a keen gardener, we can help you keep up with nature or take on the heavier duty tasks.
If everything is long overdue care and attention, we can tame things back from the wild.
Whatever you reason for needing a gardener – we are willing listen and adapt what we deliver to meet your needs and care for you garden.
How we work?
We believe your gardener should be willing, flexible and reliable.
We mostly undertake regular gardening slots for many of our clients – working our way through the seasonal cycles of care that any garden requires.
We do undertake one-off work or projects, but these are usually outside the growing season (when our regular gardens demand our full attention).
All too often we hear stories of “gardeners” unwilling to undertake common tasks like weeding or digging over a bed, even dead-heading, planting or collecting leaves. We are happy to do no more than mow the lawn if that’s all you need – but we often do so much more.
Caring for the Environment
We try to garden in as environmentally-friendly manner as possible - e.g. by avoiding the unnecessary use of harsh chemicals. We prefer to use the many natural alternatives.
Whenever we can, we use quieter and eco-friendly cordless tools in preference to noisy petrol-engined alternatives.
We will help compost any green waste - if possible - creating a free way to enrich your soil a few months later.
We focus our work locally with an eye on the mileage to and from your garden.
Beyond Simply Garden Care?
We know sometimes gardens needs more than everyday care and maintenance.
As a husband and wife team, we know our capabilities and our limits. If we feel something is beyond us – for example large tree surgery or stump removal - we be honest as say so.
Where we work?
As above, we consider the environmental cost of travelling to and from the gardens we care for.
We may travel a little further for larger projects, but we are able to keep our costs down by taking the distance we travel into consideration.
The map view shown here approximates to where we usually work.
This means our travel time does not impact on your costs and our enviromental impact is kept low.

Who will care for my garden? In short, we do. We are a husband and wife team. We undertake almost all our garden care work together. This combines our skills, strengths and ideas and gives two pairs of hands for any tasks that might require them. Whoever you choose to care for your garden, we think it is important to discuss and agree your needs with the actual people who will care for your garden.
-
How much do you cost / charge? We operate on a simple and fair cost per hour basis - we work hard and you only pay for time the jobs entails. Our rate covers us using our own tools, our liability insurance and our labour and travel to and from your garden and our ideas if needed/desired, etc. If you are local to us, we currently charge £25 an hour per person subject to a minimum of 2 hours (i.e. £50 for both of us to garden for one hour). If we supply any "extras" whether it be making raised vegatable beds or plant supports or applying path clear to your patio, or any other gardening sundries or materials; we will agree all costs with you beforehand.

Where do you work?We believe it is better for the envrionment if the majority of our work takes place close to us. Broadly speaking, we care for gardens in Sanderstead, Warlingham, South Croydon, Woldingham and Purley. We also keep out travel costs low reducing the miles in between gardens as well as time spent in traffic and this is reflected in the rate we charge. We will consider larger jobs that are further afield in Coulsdon, Selsdon, West Wickham, Oxted, Limpsfield, Godstone where this makes sense. You can see a Google map of the areas we work above here on our home page.
-
When do you work?Normally, we care for gardens Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4pm (subject to the seasonality of light and of course the weather). We will consider occasional weekend work. But, we mostly find our clients want to relax in their gardens on Saturdays and Sundays. We can usually find a mutually convenient time to attend. We can work while you are present or can be trusted to work while you are out / at work.
-
My garden is very small - can you still help?We know many garden care companies operate a minium charge of £100 or more, or worse stil,l simply won't engage when your needs are not so great. We charge the same rates to all our customers regardless of size and work hard to give you value for money. And as we undertake all jobs ourselves, the quality of what we do is assured and we are always on hand to discuss things.
-
Do you bring your own tools? We bring all our own tools. Mostly, we use cordless which are quiet, green and so do not need access to a plug socket. It can be useful to water things, if appropriate, and especially if planting; so use of your water butt and / or hose as apporpiate is ideal. It is important that we can work safely at all times and so we ask that any pets or children are kept indoors or are closely supervised safely away from us while we work. A glass of water or the like is always appreciated, but not necessary. If we do stop for refreshement or lunch or a brief rest - we do not charge you for that time!
-
What happens if it rains or worse? It will depend on the kind of gardening tasks we are undertaking. We are not averse to donning our wet weather gear and keeping going during modest rain. But, not all garden tasks lend themselves to wet weather, extreme heat or frozen ground - especially not cutting the lawns, digging things over and the like. If we cannot attend due to weather, we will try to make contact as soon as we know to discuss options. We deliberately keep a little flexibility in our schedule so we can try to rearrange such instances - be that a little before or afterwards.
-
Will you need access to a plug socket? Not usually. Wherever possible we use our cordless garden tools. These are all considerably quieter than their petrol counterparts and don't pollute the air in use. Good for everyone and the planet! It is always helpful if we can charge our additional batteries should you have a very large garden, but is not necessary in most cases. We do use petrol-powered equipment where appropriate. But, we will discuss always this with you.
